Spore, girls & STEM

I think one of the most intersting aspects of this game is the high fiedlity of the interface. It is also socially based and includes aspects of science and scietific inquiry (if, then, results) type of activities. I would like to see mor egame slike this specifically marketed toward young females. There is a great disparity in the number of females entering the science, technology, engineering and math fields. Educational gaming that stimulate an interest in those fields among young females and also includes aspects of social conditioning that are favored by females (social nature and vibrant colrs for example) really serve our education systems well. Finding a way to bring an interes of all students into STEM areas of study is importnat, but finding a way to really interest females (and hold their interest throughout higher ed) is really important to the continued progress in those fields.

Hey, I totally agree with what you're saying about games that are inviting to girls. Especially games like this one that are focused on science, because kids that are into these types of games will be the kids that grow up to be scientists and technology researchers and engineers. I always thought it was kind of bias the way videos are always about being in the military and fighting other people with guns, and how my sister or wife would never find those things interesting. I mean, this game is very social and I can totally picture boys and girls playing this game with equal amounts of interst.
